This is a regular, free, email bulletin to inform you of changes and new additions made to The Geography of Cyberspace and the Atlas of Cyberspaces web sites. The bulletin will distributed about once a month, depending on how much time I have available for my cyberspace exploration. Update Information - The Geography of Cyberspaces ================================================= A map of near real-time Internet connectivity and performance across the Singapore Telecom Internet Exchange (STIX) to major connection points around the world. The lines on the connectivity map show the nominal bandwidth, average round-trip time and degree of data packet loss. The map is updated approximately every ten minutes. To try the STIX map go to http://www.stix.net/smap.html A clickable map of European Internet Exchange Points, produced by Ole Carsten (see http://www.uni-c.dk/dix/euro.html). Also, check out Bill Manning's comprehensive list of Internet Exchange Points all around the world ( http://www.isi.edu/div7/ra/NAPs/ ). PerspectaView, a new 3D information visualisation application from Perspecta. Stems from research in the MIT Media Lab ( http://www.perspecta.com/ ). "Three Dimensional Information Visualisation". A comprehensive review of information visualisation techniques written by Peter Young, Visualisation Research Group, University of Durham, UK. The MCF description of information can be viewed using the HotSauce 3D browser ( http://hotsauce.apple.com/ ), allowing you to "fly thru the data". This button links to the "Putting Locations into the DNS: An Overview" web page. This is an important Internet effort which deserves support. If locational information in the DNS becomes common place it will help a great deal in mapping and analysing the geography of the Internet. Please see http://www.kei.com/homepages/ckd/dns-loc/ for more information. Update Information - An Atlas of Cyberspaces ============================================ The following new maps were added to the "Geographic" page : - MIDS Internet Weather Report (IWR) - GeoBoy geographical traceroute - Imperative! Domain-name maps for the USA - A Usenet flow map by Brian Reid One new map was added to the "Topology" page - a WebBoy map. Support "RFC1876 Now!" buttons have been added to appropriate pages in the Atlas. Also, the page layout for the Atlas has been revamped to improve ease of use for low resolution displays. Four completely new pages in the Atlas of Cyberspaces are under construction. They will cover "Virtual Cities", "Web Site Maps", "ISP Maps" and "Flying Through Maps". I hope to release these pages live on the Atlas web site in the next few weeks. An update bulletin will be sent when they are ready. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Best wishes, martin dodge ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ I welcome your comments on the usefulness of the update bulletin and also on my Web pages.
