This is a regular, free, email bulletin to inform you of changes and new additions made to The Geography of Cyberspace and the Atlas of Cyberspaces web sites. The bulletin will distributed about once a month, depending on how much time I have available for my cyberspace exploration. Update Information - The Geography of Cyberspaces ================================================= New for the "Mapping the Internet" section : - A Map of the MBone in August 1996, produced by Elan Amir, Computer Science Division, University of California at Berkeley, USA. (see http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~elan/mbone/map.html ) - WebPlot 1.1, an application that maps the location of "hits" on a Web server (from the access log file) onto a global map base. (Available from http://www.eit.com/goodies/software/webplot/webplot.html ) - Mapnet, an excellent tool for mapping the infrastructure of multiple Internet backbone providers on a geographical base at global and continental scale. Try Mapnet at http://www.caida.org/Tools/Mapnet/Backbones/ Mapnet is an interactive, Java-based, tool developed b CAIDA - Cooperative Association for Internet Data Analysis (http://www.caida.org/ ). Detailed infrastructure information for over thirty commercial and research & education networks can be mapped. The Java source code and map data are also available. The research of Stephen G. Eick and colleagues at Bell Laboratories into the visualisation and analysis of Internet traffic flows ( http://www.bell-labs.com/user/eick/index.html ). Examples can be viewed on his "Network Visualization Gallery" at http://www.bell-labs.com/user/eick/NetworkVis.html - ARPANET Psiber SPACE (circa 1986), a pseudo-scientific visualisation of the ARPANET by Ron Hopkins.
